A former karting champion, Blanchard raced state level Formula Ford in Victoria in 2005 before finishing fifth overall in the 2006 national championship. He went one step further with the Sonic team in 2007 to win the Australian championship before moving to the United Kingdom in 2008, where he finished runner-up in the British Formula Ford Championship and won a number of races throughout the season.
